“SHATTERED”

Acrylic/ Spray paint & Marker on Paper,

22” x 30”, 2019

When I started this painting, my goal was merely to collect non-recyclable materials, like plastic mesh, styrofoam, bottle caps, etc. and figure out ways to work them into my artwork. As I did this, I was simultaneously thinking about our human relationship with nature. I feels like no matter how much we love and value nature, we are consistently abusing it.

This work was the very first piece I created with these thoughts in mind. I had a very loose idea of what I wanted to achieve visually. By letting the mediums and my subconscious take charge I made marks with a complete trust in the process.

The final product was one that illustrates the fragile state of our environment and how it is shattering like glass, and became the inspiration for my first body of work.
